My Top 5 Travel Pet Peeves

Sunday, August 12th, 2012 | Posted under Travel General, Uncategorized, Video, Vlogging

Hey, everyone!

Here’s a vlog in support of the Traveling Brown Girl Blogging Carnival. I decided to talk. Clearly I say “like” too much, but I hope you enjoy the vlog anyway. I’ll let you know who else is participating in the blogging carnival for this month later this week.

By the way, what are YOUR travel pet peeves?

OMG, I laughed so hard at this vlog. Terri, you were hilarious, especially about the first pet peeve. I agree with all of them. I’ve not visited the blog in awhile, so I’m playing catchup! Belatedly, happy anniversary to you and your hubby.

I’ll go on record and admit that I inwardly cringe when I board a plane and discover small children are seated near me, especially in the row behind me. In my experience, it’s made for a longer flight. Granted, there are the exceptionally well-behaved children, and thank you to parents of said children. For the most part, though, I think it’s just hard for small children to sit still for any extended period, unless the parents drug ‘em and they’re knocked out for most or all of the flight. Which, for the record, is a method I fully support.

On a similar note, I had a particularly painful Delta flight in May from NYC to Tampa when, after paying for a first class ticket, my fellow passengers and I had to endure the very loud, violent, and expletive-filled outburst, which occurred in the last 20 minutes of the flight, of a mentally disabled boy. Mind you, he was also kind of disruptive when we first boarded, though he calmed down once we took off. The man with him, who I can only assume was a relative or guardian, tried to calm him down, but no dice. I felt bad for the man, as I could tell he was embarrassed. Still, I hauled a** off the plane as fast as I could, I was so annoyed and ready to get to my car for a peaceful ride home.

    Anyway, another pet peeve:

People who linger at hotel check-in. Granted, I’m an introvert, so beyond the cordial “Hello, how are you? I’m fine” spiel when I approach the desk, I have nothing to say beyond “Thank you” after receiving my hotel room key. Still, I’m baffled why it takes some people so long to check-in. Surely you can’t be complaining about the room – you haven’t seen it yet! Maybe they’re trying to negotiate upgrades? I don’t know, but I just wanna get to my room, thank you very much.

Daphne!!! WHAT’S UP???!!! I know a lot of people are probably still confused after the blog shut down for a bit. Good to “see” you! That NYC to Tampa flight sounds a little rough. I can only imagine. :( A friend of mine is totally for the drugging method, so you are not alone. :)

This was fun to watch! Somewhat similar to your #5, I can’t stand it when hotels don’t have free wifi. So stingy!

    • TryItFoodTravel

Yes! Actually I think you are right re: hotels. I should have added them, too. Hopefully most of us spend more time there than in a hotel.

  • Martice

YESSSS!!!! I can’t play with children with parents that sit idly by and let lil Davie kick, throw, and yell throughout the plane….get yo child lol! And I can’t stand a unfriendly traveler especially if I see a black woman and I give her a smile and she looks away…UNSISTERLY! lol. Check out my travel pet peeves in a travel buddy

I was TOTALLY going to mention black folks not acknowledging each other. Usually you are one of a less than a handful that you might see on the tourist/travel trail, and people want to act like they can’t give a head nod. I’m glad someone else brought it up. :)

i love kids i really do, but some kids are just plain out of order and it’s their parent’s fault. i check the kids and the parents :) OMG no wifi erks me!! and i mentioned overhead bin clowns in my post as well. some people are just inconsiderate and think the world really revolves around them

    • TryItFoodTravel

You are brave, Nicole! I don’t want to star a brawl with some of the parents, but I may need to some day. :)

Great vlog! (I say “um” a lot.)

    • TryItFoodTravel

At least I know I’m not alone. :)

LOL! Enjoyed your vid!! And I absolutely agree with the paper thin wills. There is no reason I should be able to hear the people next door snore or do whatever it is they are doing so clearly that it permeates my dreams!!!

Too funny! Great list. Ditto to them all. Especially unfriendly fellow travelers! Ugh.

Great idea to do a vlog! Looks like the overhead bin peeve was a biggie. :0)

    • TryItFoodTravel

It was! I think almost everyone said it.

  • AngelQT

Haha! A video makes it all the more poignant.

    • TryItFoodTravel

Thanks! :) I thought it would be a little different.
