August Brain Dump

Well, hello there!

Life has been kicking my butt lately. How has your summer been? :)

I thought I would do a brain dump of what’s been on my mind lately or what’s been up with me. Here it goes:

1. I discovered Instagram.

I am totally tardy to the party, but I thought I would join Instagram. I’m still not exactly all that active on it, but feel free to join me over there. I’m @TryItFoodTravel there, too.

I’ve been primarily been taking pics of places around New York City and not much of me.

In the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn

Missoni & David in the Meatpacking District in Manhattan

The Notorius B.I.G. in Fort Greene, Brooklyn

2. I’ve been looking at a lot of art.

This is primarily for my 101 in 1,001 days list. It’s been fun pushing myself to see more art. I got a chance to go to the Keith Haring exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. I enjoyed this since I actually remember Keith Haring just a little. I could see a lot of old New York City from the ’80′s and much of his artwork was used in early AIDS awareness public campaigns throughout the city. Here’s an thought-provoking quotation from him.

3. I’ve been visiting farmers’ market quite a bit.

Another 101 in 1,001 days item for me has made me into a lover of the farmers’ market. It’s more of an effort, but I’ve been loving the summer produce I’ve been getting these past two months.

4. I’ve been eating some new places.

With all of the farmers’ market trips, I’ve been cooking a little more, but that hasn’t really been totally true. Come on! It’s me.

The Salty Pimp from Big Gay Ice Cream Truck – vanilla soft serve ice cream, dulce de leche, sea salt dipped in chocolate

Red Snapper Tacos from the Stanton Social for brunch. It was free! Thank you, Roo Mi!

The Filet Mignon Sandwich from Pat LaFrieda at Citifield, home of the Mets

So, yeah. That’s my summer. It’s been fun, if a little uneven. It’s been parts uneventful and parts super busy.

How has your summer been? What have you been up to?

Reading this post reminded me that I’ve not had much to eat today! Love ice cream, and fish tacos. Separately, hee.

This summer has been one of transition. As you may recall, I was having a bit of a career crisis earlier in the year. Well, I got a new job in late May. More money, an annual bonus, and less stress. Sometimes I feel like it’s a dream. Mind you, it’s not perfect, as my new boss has been an adjustment (he’s a bit of a micromanager, lol), and I’m in a bit of a honeymoon period because we’re not that busy – YET. Nevertheless, absolutely no regrets from leaving my previous employer, who I’d been with since college 12 years ago.

In addition, I’ve recently moved into a new apartment, clear across town. The neighborhood is very nice, and people are friendly. The apartment is a bit of an upgrade since I’m making more money. I was hesitant to go for it at first, because I’m cheap, but I realized I can spend a little more.

Now if I could get things moving in the romance department, the circle might be complete, lol.

I should look into farmer’s markets in my new area…nothing like fresh produce and supporting local farmers.

Hey, D!!! Congrats on the new job. I like the honeymoon period myself. It’s actually a great time to get to know your boss and to see the office dynamics. Ya know? Sometimes there are lots of things you can observe in the first few weeks. Take people to lunch (well, you can split it! tee hee!) and just get a sense for the place while you can. That way you won’t be surprised when things get crazy and people get crazy, too. :) Also congrats on the new apartment. I like the new apartment feeling. It’s fun to set up a new home. I have no idea what will happen when we are ready to move out of our current place. We really, really like it. What great changes for you though!! Definitely check out the farmer’s market. I do think it’s nice knowing the produce I eat is locally grown. I will say that I am missing bananas though. LOL! :)

Totally love your 101 list. It inspires me to get one, well. Later. LOL. I love the food photos. They always make me hungry.

As for me, I’ve been traveling the world. It’s been a lot of ups, a lot of downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Best educational opportunity ever. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

LOVE Instagram, Welcome to the tribe, and hey, better late than never. My summer was crazy busy. Trying to get back into the swing of things. Got to get to those posts O_o as well as reading and commenting on other blogs.

Good to see you back. You had such an awesome summer. I still think I should be adopted. :)

LOVE Instagram. Glad to see you’ve (finally) come on board. Summer was crazy busy. Now it’s “back to life, back to reality” and posting about all we did and catching up on everybody’s blogs and summer adventures. The ice cream and tacos look amazing by the way.

i’m still not on instagram, but i love seeing your photos! the salty pimp looks delicious!

Mina, it was sooo good. I’m totally not even a soft serve fan, but BGIT has a new fan. I think next time I’m going to try the one with the wasabi nuts.

  • Carrie

I still don’t use Instagram! I’m honestly kind of afraid to start….I feel like I’d get totally hooked, and I’m not sure I need another social media outlet to check daily.

    • TryItFoodTravel

I know, Carrie! I feel like I already forget about it. I do think it’s fun o see what pics people decide to share. It’s on my phone, which shouldn’t make it too hard, right? We’ll see.
